Journeyman Certification Test
January 11, 2012 - 8am
The Journeyman Certification test is only administered twice a year. This 8 hour test will prepare and certify you for your occupation as a journeyman lineman. The first four hours of this test is written, followed by the last 4 hours of oral examination. To apply for this test you must have your company approve you for the test and have 8,500 hours of work in the field. Learn More

FR Protective Clothing
Experts in the electric industry will discuss new requirements and new innovative designs of FR clothing.
Trouble Shooting Techniques
Two journeyman linemen will discuss methods, tools, tricks and what to look for when troubleshooting outages.
Grounding for Personal Protection
Students will learn current techniques and theories on temporary grounding of electric lines for the protection of personnel.
Transformer Connections
Experts in the electric industry will discuss the dos and don’ts of transformer connections. The instructor will discuss proper connections to get desired voltage and transformer efficiency.
Lineman’s Safety Check List
The instructor will discuss and demonstrate proper inspection of various tools and equipment associated with line work. Linemen should bring tools and PPE to class.
Rope Splicing and Rigging Techniques
Students will learn rope characteristics as well as hands on rope splicing and eye weaving.
Do’s and Don’ts of installing Underground Cable
Instructor will give proper techniques for pulling and installation of underground cable.
Hydraulics Care and Calibration
Instructor will give proper techniques for tool adjustment and its importance as it relates to safety and quality in the field.
CDL & Motor Vehicle Requirements
The instructor will review the rules and laws governing CDL drivers as well as when and what type of CDL is required.
Crane Safety and Operation
Safe crane operation as well as new OSHA rules and regulations that will be enforced in the near future will be covered.
Utility Poles Start To Finish
This presentation covers the electric utility industry use of wooden poles: the pole materials, which trees make the best poles, utility pole treatments, common uses for utility poles and electric utility line personnel pole inspection processes.
